Juror #2 (2024)
Did I like it?
Yes.
Was it quality? Why?
This one came as a surprise for me. Not because I doubted Clint Eastwood’s ability to make a great film, nor did I doubt the Nicholas Hoult’s ability to carry a tense drama, but because I hadn’t heard much about Juror #2 prior to seeing it. Beyond any doubt, this is a great movie. It is clearly a well worked screenplay that delivered on every level I was looking for.
A re-framing of 12 Angry Men and further enhancing the tension of that classic? Bravo.
Would I watch it again? Why?
Yes. I can see myself revisiting Juror #2 every few years. It doesn’t rely on any form of mystery, but builds tension in dynamics at play in Nicholas Hoult’s heart, face. This is a court drama, but it doesn’t rely on flashy arguments that seem overblown like is so often the case with other movies within that setting. Definitely would give Juror #2 another watch.
Do I think it is accessible? Why?
There’s nothing about this movie that should be too hard for a viewer to watch or process. There’s nothing too beyond a basic palate, other than the heavy emotion and moral implication on display. There is little action or humor so perhaps you’re not going to walk away going “that was cool!", but it will make you sit and have a long think.
